Lakes and Donner Summit
Climate
The average rainfall is 14.8 inches and the average snowfall is 400 - 500 inches
with winter temperature 5 - 50 degrees and summer temperature 65 - 85 degrees.
The sun shines 300 days a year. The higher altitude coupled with low humidity
make both high and low temperatures tolerable.
Topography
Located on the western slope of the Sierra, the elevation of Serene Lakes is
between 6800 to 7200 feet. Most of the land is wooded with lodge pole pine,
white fir, cedar and tamarack, and spread over a varied terrain. Serene Lakes
is surrounded by historic mountains, the Emigrant Trail, and five local ski
resorts.
Community Services
Schools: The Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District provides K-12 with bus transportation.
Recreational Activities
Serene Lakes may be used
for fishing and non-power boating. The lower Lake also
permits swimming. There are five local ski resorts,
which include Royal Gorge, Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch,
Boreal, and Soda Springs Ski Hill. Several natural
lakes, the Pacific Crest Trail, and Emigrant Trail
provide opportunities for rock climbing, boating, fishing,
hunting, hiking, and river rafting.
Utilities
Water/Sewer: Serene Lakes is part of the Sierra Lakes Water District. All homes
are connected to sewer and are within the Donner Summit Public Utility District.
Electric: Sierra Pacific Power services Serene Lakes.
Housing
Long-term rentals are available on a limited basis with the majority of housing
being vacation rentals or ski leases. Single-family homes rent for $600 -
$1200 per month while vacation rentals vary between $125 - $350 daily and
$700 - $2300 weekly. Ski leases rent for $650 - $1800 a month with all rents
collected up front. Current demand for long-term rentals has increased considerably. |
