Sitting at the top of our beautiful Sierra world is the Donner Summit area. This is an absolutely gorgeous area ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and laced with peaceful alpine lakes. Winter here, however, is not for the timid. The average snowfall is 400 – 500 inches with winter temperature 5 – 50 degrees and summer temperature 65 – 85 degrees. The sun shines 300 days a year. Located on the western slope of the Sierra, the elevation of Serene Lakes is between 6800 to 7200 feet. Most of the land is wooded, spread over a varied terrain. Serene Lakes is surrounded by historic mountains, the Emigrant Trail, and five local ski resorts. Serene Lakes may be used for fishing and non-power boating. The lower lake also permits swimming. There are five local ski resorts, which include Royal Gorge, Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Boreal, and Soda Springs Ski Hill. Several natural lakes, the Pacific Crest Trail, and Emigrant Trail provide opportunities for rock climbing, boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, and river rafting. All homes are connected to sewer and are within the Donner Summit Public Utility District.
