Truckee River
The Truckee River begins its journey from Lake Tahoe’s only outlet at the Tahoe City dam. From there it is joined by creeks, streams and rivers on the way to its final destination, Pyramid Lake in Nevada. Along the way is an enchanting ribbon of beauty… used as source of enjoyment for sightseers, rafters, kayakers and fishing enthusiasts as well as a backdrop for homes and small subdivisions. State Route 89 has replaced the old narrow gauge rail line that linked Lake Tahoe with the trains leading to the Bay Area, Reno and parts beyond. From Tahoe City to Truckee the river passes River Ranch at the base of Alpine Meadows, then Squaw Valley & Olympic Valley. After its journey through Truckee, the river follows the steep canyons of I-80 through quaint communities and into Nevada.
Amaze and amuse your friends with some interesting facts about the TRUCKEE RIVER that you can glean from this link to Wikipedia.
Tahoe City
Tahoe City is the northwestern gateway to Lake Tahoe. From Truckee, follow route 89 along the scenic Truckee River corridor until you get to the “Y”. This is the location of “Fanny Bridge” where tourists and locals alike marvel at the huge trout visible from the bridge. Continuing along route 89 brings you to the communities along Tahoe’s west shore and eventually to Emerald Bay and South Lake Tahoe. The other direction from the “Y” takes you to Tahoe’s North shore through Incline Village and into Nevada.
Tahoe City is conveniently located to take advantage of several ski areas as well as the many activities of Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River.

Schaffer’s Mill – formerly Timilick
Schaffer’s Mill (formerly called Timilick) is underway… a community of 406 homes, including 218 single family home sites and 188 duplex town homes called the Lodges. Some 296 acres, 63% of the property will remain open space. The new community includes a championship 18-hole, 7,000-yard golf course designed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Jonny Miller & John Harbottle III, each known for highly regarded golf courses in the U.S and abroad. Schaffer’s Mill Club memberships are available to community residents and others outside the community. The golf course has opened and includes chipping and putting greens and a driving range.
Excitement is building as this year construction will begin on the Schaffer’s Mill Clubhouse which will include a 25,000 sq. ft. clubhouse including a restaurant, bar and grill, swimming pool, spa, fitness facilities, tennis courts, men’s and women’s locker rooms and social and meeting rooms. There will also be a fly-casting pond, multi-use courts, a tot lot, picnic and barbecue area, ice skating rink, a community trail system ideal for walking, hiking and biking; ample space for cross-country skiing, sledding, tubing, snow-shoeing and more. Concierge services will be an important aspect of the Schaffer’s Mill Club. Services will include home maintenance, plans for on-site and off-site recreation, guest accommodations, fly fishing trips, boat and airplane rentals, travel reservations and child care.
Phase I construction includes 40 Lodges (duplex town homes) from 1,900 to 2,600 square feet, eight Estate properties for custom homes, and 39 home sites. These wooded home sites, with views of the golf course, forest, Northstar and the Carson Range, will be sensitively developed to minimize disturbance to the surroundings. Architectural guidelines and design review processes are in place.
